Do you ponder play as an integral ingredient or a trivial luxury?

At MUDDY we are ensuing a gentle revolt against playlessness. A portal beyond the disconnect. An adult sandpit where you can break up with straight lines and witness a play based flow state.

As a pup it was my 9-5. It helped me develop every ability I harbour today, from nervous system regulation to problem solving, to fine motor skill development to social connectedness, just to riddle a few. Play is responsible for a whopper portion of the fandangle things we can now do with our head, hands and hearts. So, why as adults have we binned it en masse?

The birth of muddy.

Muddy was born in a garage pre covid. We had but two in person classes with eight humans perched around a community table my best friend built before we couldn’t sit next to each other anymore. I quickly concocted a plan on how to get mud under everyone's fingernails sans IRL play time. I wrote a nervous post out into the interwebs to say I’d be streaming live online clay-along tutorials for zero dollars and no cents. Humans would just have to scrap together some kitchen tools and clay and I’d provide the ‘how to’ along with various irrelevant anecdotes nobody asked for. From my phone direct to your kitchen table. It gave us all something to do. Together. An offering accessible to most, a virtual playground where friendships were made and kept.

An antidote to the disconnect.

YOUR FRIEND IN CLAY

Hi I’m Alex

Like a huge number of other humans, I experienced disrupted mental health as a youngster moving into adulthood. I'm intensely passionate about creating conversation and connection a little off-kilter. A non-mainstream approach to community and accessible expression. In my fumbles I've found that changing the channel on our interventions is necessary. Play and presence are paramount and connection is everything. Our minds are constantly under design and we are the architects.

Come and play in the mud with me x

This place is a little paradise, a gorgeous little studio set in a tranquil garden. We had the freedom to make what we wanted and all came away really surprised at how happy we were with our creations. Alex is an absolute gem and gave us the perfect amount of guidance and encouragement to make sure we could all come away feeling great with something we were proud of. It was such a lovely mindful and enjoyable activity!

“We've been to many clay workshops before but our experience at Muddy Clay Play with Alex was a cut above the rest. We booked a private session and felt so nurtured to make anything we wanted. Falling into the play/flow state made us feel so connected and present. We left in a state of bliss with some new coffee mugs to match. Thanks Alex, you're such a wonderful teacher and are brilliant at what you do for this community.”
